Police Commissioner Charged With Threatening Student

EAST HAVEN—

The vice chairman of the Board of Police Commissioners was arrested Thursday after allegedly threatening a student at East Haven High School.

Carl Perez, 55, a security guard at the school, turned himself in to police. He was charged by warrant with second-degree threatening, police said.

He was released on a promise to appear March 7 in Superior Court in New Haven.

"Everyone enjoys the presumption of innocence. We intend to defend to the fullest extent of the law. We believe these are highly defensible charges and we will act accordingly," said Perez' attorney, Patricia Confrancesco.

The student's mother contacted police earlier this month to complain that Perez had threatened her son, police said.

Perez was recently elected to be the board's vice chairman, said the former chairman, Frederick Brow. Brow is no longer on the board.
