The Elephant in the Room is a documentary following British filmmaker Dean Puckett through his journey into the 9/11 Truth Movement: a global movement of 'conspiracy theorists' who believe that the official explanation about what happened on 9/11 is totally or partially inaccurate. The filmmakers travel from middle England, across Europe and to New York for the six year anniversary of the attacks, where the film takes one final twist as we are introduced to the 9/11 first responders who are suffering from various grave health difficulties due to the toxic dust that they breathed in trying to help their country during the weeks after this tragic event. Told with a personal hands on approach that avoids advancing any one position, the film asks the question: are these crazy conspiracy theorists? Or is 9/11 Truth a credible political movement?

Obama – Napoleon with a Weak Personality

The below was originally written in Spanish, translated into English. The below was re-posted from here:

By Luis Arce Borja

An imperialist state such as America isn’t transformed from bad to good only because its president has dark skin.

Translated By Holly Fernandez

18 February 2009

Argentina - Argenpress - Original Article (Spanish)

Barack Obama has become president of the United States surrounded by a press montage never seen in the electoral history of the country.

This has served to renew the momentum of the current stylish policy to make capitalism and imperialism not an economic system (a brutal social policy), but rather an abstract political definition. A personality, or whatever other factor, can randomly transform capitalism and imperialism into a just, democratic, and humane system. Consequently, ridiculous speeches have emerged referring to the new American president as a “ray of hope for all humanity”, or to Barack Obama’s victory as a “hopeful song that another world is possible”.

The proponents of these beliefs deny that the far-right criminal essence of the global imperial system directly causes hunger and misery for the majority of the global population. The idea that American imperialism, with Obama as its representative, can travel on a path of reforms that favor humanity is expressed by bourgeoisie intellectuals, by vulgar revisionists, by a range of public personalities, and various news media. Chavez himself, just as imperialistic in his discourse, described Obama’s presidential election as historic and in a public communication (November 11, 2008) announced that this was a “day of hope for Americans”. Rafael Correa, another Latin American “imperialist” sent a letter to the new president of the United States (November 6, 2008) to congratulate him for his triumph and to express that it “confirms the will of the American people to follow a new leader that represents the need for change and hope in his own country and around the world”. Evo Morales reiterated the discourse and described Barack Obama’s electoral triumph as historic for the United States. Others, like the Sandinista Daniel Ortega, have resorted to old tales in order to cover up the true political essence of the new American presidential designation. For Ortega, Obama is good. But “if he tries to promote change, they will kill him! He is a prisoner of the empire”. (Daniel Ortega. III Cumbre Extraordinaria de la Alternativa Bolivariana de las Américas, ALBA, 10 de diciembre de 2008).

The fundamental aspect of Obama’s presidential election that needs to be taken into account in is that Obama has come to the White House with the consent and support of great American transnational corporations. He is the president of Yankee imperialism. For these groups in power, the skin color or the ethnic racial origin of its political representatives, is a triviality. For American transnationals, selecting a president is the same thing as making investments in oil, mining, finance, and other branches of commerce and production. What is important is that the politician - whether he is black, white, Muslim, Catholic Buddhist, atheistic, civil, or military - defends their economic interests and is disposed to igniting the world so that they can achieve great economic gains and control global wealth. It is not by accident that the three biggest American newspapers-the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune, linked to the gigantic transnationals of the country, since the beginning supported his presidential candidacy and were against the Republican John McCain.

In a release (September 2008) of the Federal Electoral Commission of the United States, it is noted that Obama’s presidential campaign has been the most expensive in the electoral history of the country. Obama collected 471 million dollars for his personal campaign - much more than John McCain who reached the sum of 230 million dollars. Most of this money came from transnationals like Microsoft, the gigantic investment company Citigroup Inc., Goldman Sachs which is considered the biggest company on Wall Street, JP Morgan Chase and Co., and Time Warner, a media empire of the United States.

Ralph Nader, American attorney known for being in active opposition to transnationals, denounced the immorality of the electoral campaign and the collection of funds. In a letter sent to Barack Obama and published November 3, 2008, he makes it known that the current black president of the United States received “economic contributions so enormous that they are without comparison, much more than Senator McCain, pertinent to corporate interests, interests of Wall Street, and what is most peculiar, large corporate law firms. Never before has a democratic candidate for the presidency achieved such superiority over his adversary”.

In the current American and global economic crisis, a Black president creates fantasies and false expectations in the poor sectors. There are millions of people, politicized or not, who believe that the election of Obama historically vindicates America of teh slavery of Africans, captured like animals in their distant country and brought to American soil like merchandise. Political farces don’t revise human history nor do they change the truth of actual acts. It doesn’t work this way for the simple reason that Obama is not a part of nor friend of the American people. He comes from the political and bureaucratic elite of the country and his election doesn’t change the situation of public dishonor and misery of the majority of the African American population. A black president in the White House gives a new veneer to the political system of the decomposing United States whose representatives are despised and hated in the entire world. This also creates an illusion of a solid bourgeoisie democracy where the black and the white, the poor and the rich, have the same rights and the same opportunities, including being able to become to the the most powerful man in the land.

An imperialist state such as America isn’t transformed from bad to good only because its president has dark skin. Social classes have nothing to do with ethnicity or social status. You can be white, blonde, black, Chinese, etc. but this does not define your political position within the state or within society. The history of social struggle records hundreds and thousands of cases of people of poor social origin that have been worse off than the prominent classic rulers who come from the heart of elite powerful groups. Latin America is a good social laboratory where it is verified that skin color and social origin do not influence the decisions of politicians.

The Democratic Party and the Republican Party, the two political monopolies of the country, take part in the political structure that controls the power centers that control the American State. The party of Obama is said to be Democratic, but from its bosom have come some of the worst governments of the United States. Harry Truman's is one of them, and he was made famous for being responsible for the Atom bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He inaugurated the “Truman Doctrine” whose political essence was the ferocious 40 years of anticommunism known as the Cold War.

John Kennedy is another Democratic president of the United States whose official history falsely presents him as a leader and lover of peace and prosperity for the world, but he was partly responsible for the bloody war in Vietnam and he was the one who ordered the invasion of Cuba in 1961. Lyndon Johnson (1963-1969), also coming from the Democratic Party, was responsible for continuing the Yankee invasion in Vietnam. Bill Clinton (1993-2001) was presented as an exemplary Democratic American but he didn't vacillate in ordering the military intervention in Haiti to sustain the puppet Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Under Clinton's presidential mandate, the troops of the United States and those of NATO intervened in Africa, in Yugoslavia, and various attacks in Iraq. For James Petras (November 28, 2008) it is important “to convince the oppressed immigrant people that the Democratic Party is not the solution. It is a hypocritical party that calls itself the party of the people but receives 70% of its financing from the big multinationals. It is also the party of big capital”.

Imperialism is Unalterable

If someone thinks that Obama will change the nature of the political system in the United States, he is completely wrong. It suffices to say that imperialism is not a subjective concept in politics, economy, ideology, or morality. It is first and foremost, a system of great industrial and financial monopolies that perform, on a global scale, acts of colonization and oppression of poor countries and its own citizens. Obama and his party are part of the political superstructure of imperialism whose economic base is the system of exploitation imposed by gigantic monopolies rooted in the United States, Europe, Japan, Canada, and other rich countries.

Imperialism, as Lenin said, is the high phase of capitalism, the fusion of banking capital and industry, the epic of the great international monopolist unions that continue to share the global wealth, and of territorial division of the world among major capitalist powers. As an example, it suffices to point to the petroleum wealth robbed from Iraq by war and crime. It has been divided principally among the American and European transnationals. These groups don’t have limits in their voracity and are capable of destroying human beings and the world using such methods to obtain wealth. Waging brutal wars and committing genocide, such as was just practiced with impunity in Gaza, is part of the nature of imperialism. It is its reason for being, and neither a Hollywood-ish electoral process nor the election of Obama will change this situation.

One of the fundamental particularities of imperialism, as Lenin said, is that in order to extend its domination and subjugate the people, it cannot dispense with wars and militarization. Towards this end, the powers militarize and use gigantic quantities of money to strengthen their repressive military apparatus. The United States with an army of more than two million soldiers and 823 military bases outside its territory, in addition to a million civil employees on its military installations, is without a doubt the most voluminous apparatus of military aggression in the history of humanity, and it grows in reaction to the demands of imperialist wars.

According to the BBC, at the end of 2003, the United States had a military budget of $401,300,000 - the greatest military expense in history. But the military budget of the U.S.A. in 2005 increased to $417,500,000 and as Bush announced, “No enemy or friend can doubt that the United States has the resources to prevail, and we shall prevail” ( In the year 2007, the American budget increased to $532,800,000 and in 2008 the sum went up to $700,000,000. As the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, pointed out, this shall serve “to confront global security challenges”, meaning to assault, make war, and commit brutal genocide in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and other regions.

Those who think that Obama is going to change the aggressive criminal course of the United States have no foundation. The closure of Guantanamo prison and other acts of the American president serve as artificial fires but do not affect the core of the imperialist policy of the American state. Under the pretext of the international antiterrorist struggle, new aggressions are being prepared and Obama will continue imperialist wars of different form but not of different nature. These wars, with the objective of empowering the USA in the world, will continue to be semi colonial actions against poor countries, and especially those that have considerable riches in petroleum, minerals, water, and fertile land. To this end, the new president of the USA has announced that he shall continue waging the “antiterrorist” war in countries not yet invaded, but that in the immediate future shall be victims of the war policy of this country. Some lords of the Yankee war, like General Colin Powell (Ex Secretary of State for Bush and Chief of the war in Iraq), have supported the election of the current American president. Barack Obama was not impartial in the Gaza genocide and comforted the government of Israel. He supported the supposed right of the Israeli state to “defend itself from the Hamas terrorists”.

Similarly, he has spoken of pulling troops from Iraq, but he wants to make a greater military impact in Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan. Regarding Iran, he has called for their being prevented from having a nuclear weapon and has not ruled out military action to prevent it. But worst of all is that he has considered increasing the gigantic military budget of the United States, which means militarizing the planet even more. With just cause, James Petras has pointed out that with the presidential election of Barack Obama, “there is not any break in military policy. There is even a danger of taking more extreme measures in order to show the soldiers and the militants that he [Obama] is also a hard man, a strong man, capable of confronting those that call themselves “the enemies of the United States”." This is the danger of a weak personality that wants to present himself as a new American Napoleon with more aggressive methods.

not sure i would quote lenin as to the destruction of capitalism and its ills.

now as far as american imperialism. do you have any idea how few americans know they are imperialists?

you could travel this country from east to west and from north to south and not find one american that has any idea they are an imperialist.

the industrial military complex, corp fascim, and our goverment has done a brillant job of convincing americans they are about freedom and that mega military budget is about their freedom.

most americans who read my words here will think that I hate america or I am a traitor without realizing one can be a true patroit by calling its country imperialistic.

the only thing that can shut down american imperiailism is a total economic meltdown. that wont happen anytime soon as china is willing to loan us money that we can pay back in a devalued dollar.i might add for thier own selfish reasons to keep their economic thrust going full swing.

also we can print money for many years to keep our imperialism which we like to call super power status in our troubled world.

the american ego loves the concept of being a super power just like the bully on the block likes to be the tough guy that everyone fears.

we have southern states were parents raise their children to fight in our wars for profits and they call their children heros for doing so.

think for a moment what it is like being one small voice in a huge land calling for our coming to our senses. obama may know much of this but he also knew what it took to get elected in an imperialist nation.

gorby also knew this about communism but got elected to the highest office to deconstruct communism into a social democracy.

the people failed to listen to gorby as they wanted full blown capitalism and it backfired on them.

with communism man expoits man with capitalism it is the other way around.

how few in america understand these words.

Trust me...I'm ODD

I have a disease. It's official. I have all the symptoms. I have worked hard all my life to be buck the stick it to the man. It finally paid off. I now have Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). As we speak, I am applying for my handicapped license plate due me for my new disability. I am no longer responsible for my actions...entirely. I could fly off the handle at any given moment. I have nothing but disdain for authority, I am disruptive and refuse to adhere to social norms. I'm a sick man. Of course this is all currently only a preliminary self-diagnoses, but I intend to seek professional health-care confirmation soon. But due to my illness, I will most likely disagree with whatever they say.

Just this morning, I read this and went berserk:

"The Department of Homeland Security released $19 million to secure non-profits, the vast majority Jewish.
Of 271 institutions named in a list released this week by DHS, 254 are Jewish, including synagogues, schools, community centers and offices.
The funds were released as part of a congressionally mandated program in place since 2005 that targets institutions that are vulnerable to attack.
Security measures funded include “blast proof windows; reinforced doors, locks, gates, and fences; video surveillance; and other equipment and enhancements” as well as training, according to a release by the Jewish Federations of North America, the federations umbrella body that lobbies annually for the funding.
“The Nonprofit Security Grant Program is a proven resource that helps supplement the work of local and federal law enforcement to help keep us safe,” William Daroff, JFNA’s Washington director, said in a statement.
Other groups lobbying for the money include two Orthodox umbrella bodies, the Orthodox Union and Agudath Israel of America.
O.U. called the funds “an important tool to help prevent terrorist attacks and protect civilians in case of such attack” and Aguda said “threats and actual incidents of violence against Jewish targets in the United States and around the world point to the particular vulnerability of our community.”
Sen. Barbara Mikuski (D-Md.), who has shepherded the funding through congressional appropriations, said she remained committed to sustaining the program.
“I have fought for these funds in the past, and I will keep fighting to protect institutions that are vital to our communities and the physical, social, spiritual and educational well-being of all Americans,” she said."

You see? A harmless little article. And yet something in me sees this as morally wrong, biased and jew-based graft. I need help. Nothing helps. I see conspiracy in the most innocent of things.
I read somewhere recently that "trust" in the world is at an all time low. They even plot this human emotion statistically.

I don't trust statistics...unless they align with my view of things. That is part of my sickness. Anyway, they say that virtually no one trusts anything anymore. And at the bottom of the "trustworthy" chart is blogs. Well that makes sense to me. This is all bullshit out here. No one can be trusted. Not like in the old days. Well, I mean the REALLY old days. Back when you got your news from a wandering minstrel that sang it to you. But how did they know he didn't just make that crap up, to rhyme and have meter? There were probably even ODD people back then.

I remember as a young teen, my cousin said she had this neat game to play and did I want to try it? Sure. Ok, the idea was(and maybe you have done this), you stand 5-6ft from someone and turn your back to them. Then you stiffen your body and fall straight backward and "trust" that person to catch you. I think it was originally supposed to be some kind of test of your ability to trust a fellow human, or some shit. When I woke up, I was trying to listen to the doctor say something to me, but it was difficult while I was flying around the room like that. Up. Down. Swooping over by the top of the window. All the while his narrow little voice kept saying something about "occipital concussion" and stitches and brains sloshing or something. Anyway, she, my cousin, taught me a valuable lesson about trust. Don't do it. Ever. It will hurt you someday. But, you can't trust what I say. I'm ODD.

Connecticut Marshal William Nolan apologizes for receiving lap dance while serving warrant at strip club

Posted in September 22nd, 2010
by Claudette Rothman in Connecticut, In the news

A Connecticut state marshal has apologized for paying for a $15 lap dance while serving a New Haven strip club owner a tax warrant.

While testifying before two members of the State marshal Commission on Tuesday, Marshal William Nolan cried for the March 6, 2009 incident at Stage Door Johnny’s in New Haven.

“I think it was lack of judgment and I want to put on the record that I apologize to my wife and family and my 87-year-old mother, who almost had a breakdown herself. Thant’s not me. I have never been in that place before in my life,” Nolan told Vincent Mauro and Joseph Quinn.

Nolan was also charged with failing to act with due diligence when he charged the owner of the club 10 percent more than he should have on his tax bill.

The error was discovered with owner Johnny Kraft went to pay his bill in person. Nolan said the incident was a complete mistake.

Mauro and Quinn will make a recommendation to the full commission at its September 29 meeting on the necessary actions to be taken against Nolan.

In Denial

A great percentage of Americans are in denial. Others have PTSD from knowing the truth and watching the majority sit by and let it continue to get worse. Many Americans are considering an exit strategy, living "Free" and "American" where we can outside the land of torture, repression, colonial seizing of countries, who are tired in living in a prison state, America. The fences that restrict movement in, can also restrict movement out. I am looking at where would be good to go to be an American Ex-Pat, still having a US Passport, seeking asylum living somewhere that the US Constitution might apply at least, partially.

Any suggestions on starting a community outside the US where Free Speech and other rights might be respected?

The Paul Craig Roberts article the above comment was posted in:

The Collapse of Western Morality

Yes, I know, as many readers will be quick to inform me, the West never had any morality. Nevertheless things have gotten worse.

In hopes that I will be permitted to make a point, permit me to acknowledge that the US dropped nuclear bombs on two Japanese cities and fire-bombed Tokyo; that Great Britain and the US fire-bombed Dresden and a number of other German cities, expending more destructive force, according to some historians, against the civilian German population than against the German armies; that President Grant and his Civil War war criminals, Generals Sherman and Sheridan, committed genocide against the Plains Indians; that the US today enables Israel's genocidal policies against the Palestinians -- policies that one Israeli official has compared to 19th century US genocidal policies against the American Indians; that the US in the new 21st century invaded Iraq and Afghanistan on contrived pretenses, murdering countless numbers of civilians, and that British prime minister Tony Blair lent the British army to his American masters, as did other NATO countries, all of whom find themselves committing war crimes under the Nuremberg standard in lands in which they have no national interests, but for which they receive an American pay check.

I don't mean these few examples to be exhaustive. I know the list goes on and on. Still, despite the long list of horrors, moral degradation is reaching new lows. The US now routinely tortures prisoners, despite its strict illegality under US and international law, and a recent poll shows that the percentage of Americans who approve of torture is rising. Indeed, it is quite high, though still just below a majority.

And we have what appears to be a new thrill: American soldiers using the cover of war to murder civilians. Recently American troops were arrested for murdering Afghan civilians for fun and collecting trophies such as fingers and skulls.

This revelation came on the heels of Pfc. Bradley Manning's alleged leak of a US Army video of US soldiers in helicopters and their controllers thousands of miles away having fun with joy sticks murdering members of the press and Afghan civilians. Manning is cursed with a moral conscience that has been discarded by his government and his military, and Manning has been arrested for obeying the law and reporting a war crime to the American people.

US Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican, of course, from Michigan, who is on the House Subcommittee on Terrorism, has called for Manning's execution. According to Rep. Rogers, it is an act of treason to report an American war crime.

In other words, to obey the law constitutes "treason to America."

Rep. Rogers said that America's wars are being undermined by "a culture of disclosure," and that this "serious and growing problem" could only be stopped by the execution of Manning.

If Rep. Rogers is representative of Michigan, then Michigan is a state that we don't need.

The US government, a font of imperial hubris, does not believe that any act it commits, no matter how vile, can possibly be a war crime. One million dead Iraqis, a ruined country, and four million displaced Iraqis are all justified, because the "threatened" US Superpower had to protect itself from nonexistent weapons of mass destruction that the US government knew for a fact were not in Iraq and could not have been a threat to the US had they been in Iraq.

When other countries attempt to enforce the international laws that the Americans established in order to execute Germans defeated in World War II, the US government goes to work and blocks the attempt. A year ago on October 8, the Spanish Senate, obeying its American master, limited Spain's laws of universal jurisdiction in order to sink a legitimate war crimes case brought against George W. Bush, Barack H. Obama, Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

The West includes Israel, and there the horror stories are 60 years long. Moreover, if you mention any of them you are declared to be an anti-semite. I only mention them in order to prove that I am not anti-American, anti-British, and anti-NATO, but am simply against war crimes. It was the distinguished Zionist Jewish Judge, Richard Goldstone, who produced the UN report indicating that Israel committed war crimes when it attacked the civilian population and civilian infrastructure of Gaza. For his efforts, Israel declared the Zionist Goldstone to be "a self-hating Jew," and the US Congress, on instruction from the Israel Lobby, voted to disregard the Goldstone Report to the UN.

As the Israeli official said, we are only doing to the Palestinians what the Americans did to the American Indians.

The Israeli army uses female soldiers to sit before video screens and to fire by remote control machine guns from towers to murder Palestinians who come to tend their fields within 1,500 meters of the inclosed perimeter of Ghetto Gaza. There is no indication that these Israeli women are bothered by gunning down young children and old people who come to tend to their fields.

If the crimes were limited to war and the theft of lands, perhaps we could say it is a case of jingoism sidetracking traditional morality, otherwise still in effect.

Alas, the collapse of morality is too widespread. Some sports teams now have a win-at-all-cost attitude that involves plans to injure the star players of the opposing teams. To avoid all these controversies, let's go to Formula One racing where 200 mph speeds are routine.

Prior to 1988, 22 years ago, track deaths were due to driver error, car failure, and poorly designed tracks compromised with safety hazards. World Champion Jackie Stewart did much to improve the safety of tracks, both for drivers and spectators. But in 1988 everything changed. Top driver Ayrton Senna nudged another top driver Alain Prost toward a pit wall at 190 mph. According to AutoWeek (August 30, 2010), nothing like this had been seen before. "Officials did not punish Senna's move that day in Portugal, and so a significant shift in racing began." What the great racing driver Stirling Moss called "dirty driving" became the norm.

Nigel Roebuck in AutoWeek reports that in 1996, World Champion Damon Hill said that Senna's win-at-all-cost tactic "was responsible for fundamental change in the ethics of the sport." Drivers began using "terrorist tactics on the track." Damon Hill said that "the views that I'd gleaned from being around my dad [twice world champion Graham Hill] and people like him, I soon had to abandon," because you realized that no penalty was forthcoming against the guy who tried to kill you in order that he could win.

When asked about the ethics of modern Formula One racing, American World Champion Phil Hill said: "Doing that sort of stuff in my day was just unthinkable. For one thing, we believed certain tactics were unacceptable."

In today's Western moral climate, driving another talented driver into the wall at 200 mph is just part of winning. Michael Schumacher, born in January 1969, is a seven times World Champion, an unequaled record. On August 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, AutoWeek Reports that Schumacher tried to drive his former Ferrari teammate, Rubens Barrichello, into the wall at 200 mph speeds.

Confronted with his attempted act of murder, Schumacher said: "This is Formula One. Everyone knows I don't give presents."

Neither does the US government, nor state and local governments, nor the UK government, nor the EU.

The deformation of the police, which many Americans, in their untutored existence as naive believers in "law and order," still think are "on their side," has taken on new dimensions with the police militarized to fight "terrorists" and "domestic extremists."

The police have been off the leash since the civilian police boards were nixed by the conservatives. Kids as young as 6 years old have been handcuffed and carted off to jail for school infractions that may or may not have occurred. So have moms with a car full of children (see here for example.)

Anyone who Googles videos of US police gratuitous brutality will call up tens of thousands of examples, and this is after laws that make filming police brutality a felony. A year or two ago such a search would call up hundreds of thousands of videos.

In one of the most recent of the numerous daily acts of gratuitous police abuse of citizens, an 84-year-old man had his neck broken because he objected to a night-time towing of his car. The goon cop body-slammed the 84-year-old and broke his neck. The Orlando, Florida, police department says that the old man was a "threat" to the well-armed much younger police goon, because the old man clenched his fist.

Americans will be the first people sent straight to Hell while thinking that they are the salt of the earth. The Americans have even devised a title for themselves to rival that of the Israelis' self-designation as "God's Chosen People." The Americans call themselves
"the indispensable people."

Able Danger and DIA Prior Knowledge of 9/11

I posted the below video after having read [this] post seeing links in first comment. Would the attacks on September 11, 2001, have occurred if there was civilian oversight of the NSA, CIA, and other US intelligence activities and budgets? Would such attacks in the future be less likely to occur if officials such as Barack Obama and George W. Bush hadn't given themselves immunity for national and international crimes committed by themselves and their cronies?

This post expanded, here:

A source with close ties to the highest echelons of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) told WMR that personnel who worked for the DIA on the classified counter-terrorism data mining operation known as Able Danger were aware of the planned attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and other major facilities in Washington, DC, on 9/11 but their information was permitted, on purpose, to languish in the intelligence and law enforcement bureaucracies without any proactive measures being taken.

Able Danger began during the Clinton administration but was sidelined by order to DIA from the Bush White House, the FBI, and the CIA.

My personal thoughts on 9-11 writer Kevin Gosztola wrote a piece called, "9/11 Burdens America, We Must Reassess How It Defines This Country," and the below is my comment posted within the Gosztola article [found here]

Responses to 9-11, written before the event

It is amazing the planning that went on before 9-11 that had not a prayer of being before the event. Iraq and Afghanistan wars were pre-planned. They were on the wish list. If the events weren't orchestrated by the US and other intelligence, it was allowed to happen, to further the agenda.

Were Americans lied into every major war except Iraq and Afghanistan? Did American government liars for the first time in their history tell the truth on this one? You don't know how truly bad the US system is until you test it. There is really almost no representation for our taxation. The corporations in power fixed that. Americans would be safer if the US Government wasn't bombing and killing to reduce populations of brown and non-whites while stealing all of value in the process. Trillions of US tax dollars can't even be accounted for. When a criminal organization steals the last dollars from victims, the victims are terrorized and killed to keep them quiet.

If the US Government conducts itself like a Mafia, it is organized crime. If investigations and courts are rigged, there is no recourse through the "system". It is as crazy as asking police officers to investigate themselves. That doesn't work out well for citizens when every aspect of their lives are torched out of existence for daring to speak up. The government is no different. For some on the list, are just waiting for their turn.

If a citizen is blacklisted for any excuse, police officers might get a beep in their cruiser indicating the individual should be followed around or detained.

Contacting elected officials on issues, being critical in blogs, or having something or someone an officer wants to take away from you can put you on the secret police blacklist.

Adrian Lamo

The below re-posted [from here]

WikiLeaks 'Snitch' Hacker Faces Wrath of His Peers

Updated: 46 days 18 hours ago
Print Text Size

Sanjiv Bhattacharya

(July 21) -- The wanted-dead-or-alive posters described him as a "rat bastard." Then there was the spitting and name-calling, things like Snitch! and A**hole! Not to mention the death threats -- none credible enough to warrant Kevlar, but still, Adrian Lamo had good reason to check up on the security arrangements before setting foot in the Hackers On Planet Earth conference in Manhattan last weekend.

The 29-year-old Lamo was once a star of the hacker community, having broken into computer systems at The New York Times, WorldCom and Microsoft (and earned two years' probation in the bargain). But that all changed in May, when he snitched on a fellow hacker, Pfc. Bradley Manning, who allegedly leaked classified material to the website WikiLeaks -- most notably a video showing a U.S. helicopter strike on civilians and reporters in Baghdad.

Manning is now detained in Kuwait facing a possible 52 years if convicted on all counts, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is in hiding and the hacker community is in an uproar over Lamo's perceived act of treachery.

Meanwhile, the traitor himself spent the weekend at the HOPE conference in New York calmly dodging spitballs and scrolling through his hate mail. His Facebook page is full of vitriol, each post answered with a quip from Lamo. (Why don't you f**k off and join the circus? says one. Are they hiring? comes the reply.) Perhaps it's the Asperger's, but the most hated hacker on the planet doesn't appear to be nearly as flustered as he might.

"I'm thinking of making a book of it all," he said. "The kind you pick up at the counter of Borders."

Breaking the Code

On Sunday afternoon, Lamo took part in a panel discussion at the hackers' conference, enduring a barrage of comments like "You committed treason!" and "You belong in Guantanamo!" He responded to them all in his slow, deliberate manner, often with a wry smile.

He said he wished Manning had never contacted him, and that he believed that the classified information Manning wanted to leak would have led to a greater loss of life. But he still supported WikiLeaks, an assertion that prompted many a cry of "Bullsh*t!" in the audience. Lamo just smiled -- "I respect your right to your opinion."

Lamo, right, responds to comments bashing him for turning in Pfc. Bradley Manning, as he takes part in a panel discussion in New York on Sunday.

"It's not as bad as I thought it would be," he said afterward. "Quite a lot of people have expressed their support."

"A lot" might be stretching it, though. According to Emmanuel Goldstein, who organized the panel discussion, 90 percent of the conference was anti-Lamo.

"Hackers are renegades, but in the good sense," he said. "We're the kind that breaks into a system to expose the evil that's inherent within it. And that's something that was obvious in this case. Many of us see Manning as a national hero."

Ethics are a big deal among hackers, who pride themselves on values like the freedom of speech and information and a healthy mistrust of authority. "To live outside the law," Bob Dylan famously wrote, "you have to be honest" -- and by the standards of the community, Lamo had broken several rules.

"He violated one of the most basic tenets," Goldstein said, "and that's not to go to the authorities with an issue, but to handle it internally."

Furthermore, Lamo had sided with the U.S. government over WikiLeaks, an institution that "embodies all that is sacred to the hacker mentality," as 2600: The Hacker Quarterly puts it. WikiLeaks is held in such esteem that Assange, until he was forced into hiding, was intended to be the conference's keynote speaker. (Ultimately he was substituted by WikiLeaks' Jacob Appelbaum, who called for Lamo to be shunned.)

Lamo, however, doesn't trust WikiLeaks. "I have serious questions," he told me afterward. "I think they've posted, like, 13 leaks this year and they get a lot more than that. There are also rumors of unexplained sources of funding -- it would be the perfect cover for a commercially based foreign intelligence service as opposed to a state-operated one." (These rumors, he said, stem from a WikiLeaks volunteer.)

Lamo also came under fire for taking a stand in defense of the United States, as patriotism is something of a dirty word in the hacker community. As one conference attendee from Norway scolded him, "We are internationalists -- you should focus on an international point of view, not an America-centric one."

But Lamo unashamedly characterized America as a force for global good, and a free country. "We have the freedom to hold this conference and talk about things that to the uninformed would sound threatening," he told the audience. "And that's not something that you get in a lot of places."

He added he wished that WikiLeaks would focus its attention on oppressive regimes, rather than the U.S. "Is anyone here being oppressed right now?" he asked with a grin. The crowd yelled back, "Yes!"

Hacker Against Hacker

Then there's the matter of Lamo's personal betrayal of Manning.

Evidently the 22-year-old Army intelligence analyst was something of a fan. He knew a lot about Lamo when he contacted him on May 21, and no doubt he believed he was reaching out to a kindred spirit.

But Lamo quickly became concerned by the amount of classified material Manning had lifted. "My first reaction was, 'Holy fracking crap, 260,000 [diplomatic] cables!' " And the way Manning described the chaos he intended to wreak, Lamo said, did nothing to assuage his fears: Everywhere there's a U.S. post, there's a diplomatic scandal that will be revealed. ... It's open diplomacy. Worldwide anarchy in CSV format.

Fearing such a breach would jeopardize national security, Lamo passed on what he knew to his ex, who happened to work for Army counterintelligence. His suspicions were apparently confirmed.

"Their [Army counterintelligence's] immediate response when I related the code name for one of the operations was 'Never say those words again,' " Lamo told me. "Literally, 'Forget you ever heard those words.' And when I met with two federal agents to discuss them, they had me write it down on a piece of paper rather than say it aloud."

Lamo and Manning chatted for only five days, but for the last three, Lamo was secretly cooperating with federal agents. While he regrets not being a better friend to Manning, he said, "the needs of the many" trumped "the need of the one to have a friend."

As it happens, Lamo was uniquely qualified to lead Manning on. All hackers are adept at manipulation: They play roles when they penetrate security systems -- it's called social engineering, and it often involves pretending to be someone else entirely. Consequently, manipulation and betrayal are not uncommon among hackers.

Nevertheless, Lamo's destruction of Manning left a bitter taste at HOPE. At the end of the conference Goldstein tried to focus on the positives, such as the basic civility of the hacker community, given the intensity of feeling.

Indeed, the only challenge to HOPE's security team came not from Lamo's angry peers, but rather when federal agents tried to apprehend WikiLeaks' Appelbaum after his keynote address. ("I don't know what they did -- if they dressed someone up as Appelbaum or what -- but he got away," Goldstein said. "Everyone followed him out of the building after the speech, and then it turned out it wasn't him!")

But the facts remained: While Manning languished behind bars, Lamo posed for pictures, unmolested. Within a day, he would be back in San Francisco, where he lives, waiting to testify if called.

And in the meantime, perhaps, that book of hate mail?

He laughed. "Actually no," he said. "I think if I monetize it, I might get more than just mail!"
